Bampton House is a 100% natural skincare and candle brand that aims to bring the luxury of the spa experience to your home.
We were thrilled to have Bampton House join the WS family, and we not only love their uniquely blended products but their natural and ethical brand promise too.
We caught up with co-director Emily to find out a little more about where the idea for Bampton House came from, some of their favourite products, greatest achievements, and to find out why being a natural and vegan brand is so important to them.
Where did the idea for Bampton House come from?
Our Founder Hollie is a beautician by trade, and for over a decade, she suffered terribly from skin issues such as dermatitis and eczema. When she mentioned this to her colleagues, they all shared that they too suffered from these problems, especially at busy times of the year. As it turns out, most products used in salons are designed and tested on the basis that a client would be using them occasionally, not holding in mind those who will have their hands in and out of the chemical-based products all day long – apparently, it’s the norm in the industry! After lots of research, Hollie realised that using genuinely natural products solved the issue, but there was little choice on the market, and many products weren’t fit for purpose, so Bampton House was born.
As the brand has grown, it’s become clear that there’s a need for top-quality, genuinely natural skincare that can be used at home as well as in professional settings, no matter what stage you are at on your journey through womanhood.
What five words best describe your brand?
Genuinely natural, award-winning, vegan, self-care
What sets you apart from other skincare and candle brands out there?
For decades there’s been this misconception that natural products are not as effective as synthetic ones – we’re proving that’s not the case. We can spend years in the product development stage, tinkering with recipes for new products, trialling them on our friends and family, and making sure they not only smell amazing but that they deliver results. Our scrub, for example, was Hollie’s nemesis – we trialled so many that fell down the plughole before any scrubbing had even taken place. Eventually, we found a coconut-based ingredient that gives the scrubs a gel-like consistency – that was a real eureka moment!
Why are you passionate about what you do?
Hollie still works in her beauty salon and uses our products in treatments where it’s easy to be passionate about them, partly because she no longer suffers from sore hands, but also because of the constant positive feedback she gets from clients in the salon.
For me (the other director of Bampton House), I have my own personal, emotional attachments to the products. For example, I used the Calm Mind oil for hypnobirthing when I was in labour, and
the scent will forever remind me of when I met my son for the first time. The first iteration of bath salts were designed for me by Hollie when I was a new mum – when I had virtually no time to myself, except for baths! I love that the jojoba in them means you get out of the tub feeling hydrated by not slimy. Also, the Bump and Baby Balm was designed for my son as he had eczema – the doctor prescribed paraffin-based emollients, which I didn’t fancy putting on my tiny baby. I couldn’t believe that his itchy, sore skin cleared up within a week of using the balm – that might actually be my personal favourite product.
All your products are vegan, why is that important to you?
We are yet to find a reason to include animal-derived products in what we make. We believe that making choices to use ingredients that have a lower carbon-footprint is only going to be a good thing for our brand, our customers, our conscience, and the planet in the long run.
What’s the best part of running Bampton House?
Absolutely the best thing is getting to work together. Hollie and I have been friends since we were 13 years old. We’ve been so busy lately our ‘friend chat’ as been minimal and ‘BH chat’ has been maxing out, but there are magical times when we’re nicely busy and still have time to chat while we pour, and listen to podcasts and music while we stick on labels.
Why did you want to partner with Wellbeing Sisters?
We love that, like us, you started from a genuine life experience, and you want to proactively help others experiencing the same. Yes, Wellbeing Sisters is a business, but from the countless conversations we’ve had with you, we are certain your main driving force is to help people and educate women on their personal journeys – that’s admirable and we’re very pleased to be part of your story.
What’s your favourite Bampton House product?
As I mentioned before, the Bump and Baby Balm will always have a special place in my heart. Not only did it sort out my son’s eczema, but the whole family also used it for baby massage. It’s the smell of bedtime in our home even four years on.
However, my other personal favourite is our Clear Mind Bath Salts. I was a bit unsure at first why you’d want to have a minty smelling bath, but actually, as I sometimes have blocked sinuses, these salts are the dream. There is nothing more refreshing and simultaneously relaxing, and The Shortlist Beauty Awards agreed with us earlier this year when we won their top award for ‘Most Refreshing Bath Salts’.
As Bampton House continues to grow, what are some of the things your customers can look forward to?
Well, we have a few new products up our sleeves, so keep your eyes peeled for those! I’m really excited about the new branding of our candles, which are available on the Wellbeing Sisters website. We changed these a few months ago and the new ‘mind’ scent names are proving super popular. Great for stocking fillers too!
What are your customers looking for when they shop with you?
Well, we actually have customers that come to us for many different reasons. Of course, there are people looking for quality, natural products but we also have sub-groups of followers such as yogi’s who use our body oils for meditations, people with sleep issues who use our Sleepy Mind bath salts and oils, and pregnant women who need to switch to pregnancy-approved products.
Why should our customers make the switch to Bampton House?
There are a few good reasons, really: our products are genuinely natural and actually work, we always try to make decisions that are less impactful on the environment (we’re not perfect, but we try), and we’re transparent and don’t scrimp on the quality of our ingredients. However, the main reason you should make the switch is that we know you will love using our products. They were designed for relaxing, luxurious professional treatments, and you can recreate this experience at home.
You won five awards at this year’s Beauty Shortlist Wellbeing Awards, tell us a little about that?
We couldn’t believe it! We entered five products, and five products won. The Shortlist Beauty Awards are judged by a very sought after panel (experts like Justine Jenkins – clean beauty enthusiast and makeup artist to Fearne Cotton), so hear that our products received the seal of approval from people whose job is to find the best natural products on the market was really quite overwhelming.
What’s your greatest accomplishment to date?
For me, I’d say our high returning customer rate. I handle the sales and marketing for BH, and while I love it we have a new customer, what makes me even more proud of our artisan business is to see people coming back for more. For me, that’s the proof in the pudding of how much people love using our products, and I couldn’t ask for more!
If you hadn’t set up Bampton house, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
Well, Hollie would be running her salon full time, probably with sore hands to boot! I would be doing a marketing job and dreaming up some entrepreneurial sideline but possibly not having the guts to go for it – I’d need Hollie to step in to give me the confidence to make it happen!
